Cyclists’ Rights

By any measure, cycling on city streets has increased dramatically.  Because we bike, the lawyers of Rankin & Taylor understand that motorists and police too often fail to respect cyclists’ right to the road.  Rankin & Taylor has represented many cyclists who were seriously injured on the road or harassed by police, and we’ve won for them the compensation they deserve.

  • In 2010, Rankin & Taylor won a $965,000 settlement on behalf of group cyclists illegally arrested, summonsed harassed by NYPD.
  • In 2008, Rankin & Taylor won dismissal of criminal charges against a cyclist who was knocked from his bike without justification by an NYPD officer, as well as a $65,000 settlement for the mistreatment he suffered.  The officer was disciplined and charged with perjury and assault.
